Art is subjective, Charlie Brown!

Charlie Brown watches Lucy from a distance as she counts the number of times she can jump rope. The boy approached, curious about what she was doing. Lucy lowered the rope and smiled from ear to ear, proud of her achievement. Charlie Brown, unsurprised, stuck his hands in his pockets and asked, “But is it art?” Then he walked away, leaving Lucy stunned. Art encompasses a variety of media, such as painting, sculpture, engraving, drawing, writing, and photography. It involves a mixture of talent, sincerity and skill. For Lucy, jumping rope fifty times in a row is a big accomplishment. For Charlie Brown, not so much. This strip is an answer to the strip from the previous day, where Linus made that tower of playing cards, which his sister didn’t consider art. Artistic merit might be the eye of the beholder, but for the performer, sincerity and effort are never questioned and are always self-evident. For the first time, Lucy is confronted with the question of the artistic merit of her activity, and she doesn't like the idea of not being vindicated for her effort.
